Movie Review: Ted

Where to begin with this “interesting” movie, I think I’ll start off by saying if you’re a mad Family Guy fan or like slapped cheek humour this is the movie for you!

However if you’re a sufferer of Parkinson’s Disease, a Muslim, Jewish, gay, fat or Susan Boyle prepare to be teased.

I have to say I was quite surprised, I thought the movie would have been funnier and slightly more random, but its main humour comes from the cuddly teddy bear named Ted. I felt the beginning was laid out well, setting the scene of Christmas time which is where Ted comes to life. The movie then fast forwards to nowadays where John, a 35 year old man, living with his now pot smoking, hard drinking, sex seeking teddy bear. Also stuck in a dead end job he’s been dating a girl called Lori for four years who eventually wants the teddy bear to move out.

This movie basically follows similar lines of a love story, just instead of a human best friend holding John back it’s an animated teddy bear.

In all cases with me and not necessarily with you, an ending makes or breaks a movie. The ending (not that I’m going to tell you what happens) is actually quite sweet and probably for me made up for the rest of some of the not so funny humour.

In all I actually liked it, however recently given the option to go and see it again for free I have declined this offer which is rare for me.

One other thing I would like to point out, I did spot 2 continuity errors, this is when John is talking on his mobile phone (iPhone) and it’s up the wrong way – camera pans left to Lori and then comes back to John and the phone is then positioned correctly. This happened twice as far as I noticed and left me feeling like they had rushed the movie through production…

My Rating: 4/10
