So Chris Birch the British man who "woke up gay" after suffering a stroke, is back in the news after the airing of a much-anticipated BBC Three documentary which I watched tonight.
The documentary explores his "new" life as a gay man. In the opening scene, he describes himself and his old life "as a 19 stone, beer swilling – rugby fan" and how it all changed after doing a forward somersault down a grass bank resulting in a stroke.
Now a hairdresser and having changed his name to "Kris" – the documentary follows him on a journey to find out about his old life, old friends and girlfriends as he can not remember all of the past.
Now, the first time I heard about this story back at the end of last year I was somewhat sceptical, however after watching the documentary and understanding how people can change after realising their real sexual orientation even with out a stroke, I can understand where he’s coming from, but I won’t go as far as saying I completely believe him, but it has definitely changed my view on people who have strokes and how life changing that must be.
If you’re in the UK you can watch the documentary here
Unfortunately if you are in a foreign land like me, you will need to either do something clever with your Internet or wait for it to become available in your area.
